Don't Speak on Product Unless You Properly Read Instructions February 13, 2008 Reviewer:  Clean MaMa "Diana R" (Chicago, IL, USA)  See all my reviews >

Now I know this product is not perfect but it definitely does its job. There is standard maintanence, as with any humidifier. I admit after the first few months using it I was ready to through it away, BUT then I decided to actually read the manual. There are instructions on how to properly clean and maintain this product. The white dust can be completely eliminated with the use of distilled water (AS STATED IN THE INSTRUCTIONS). You must replace the demineralization cartridge as needed. Weekly cleaning with a mixture of bleach and water are needed as mold does grow in all humidifiers. Also if you choose not to use distilled water and your hard water is making white dust appear. you must use a mixture of vinegar and water to clean deposits that occur on the base of the humidifier. The white dust occurs due to the severity of the how hard your water is. At my apartment the water created to much white dust it actually broke some of my appliances. Until I read the manual I was at [the store] exchanging my electronics over and over. But now with proper maintanence and knowledge of the product it works perfectly.

Never had a problem December 15, 2007 Reviewer:  AHP See all my reviews >

We have been using this humidifier for over a year now, and so far it's been great! May not be powerful enough for bigger rooms or rooms with higher ceilings, but for average size rooms it definitely works very well and increases humidity level by at least 8-10%. The white dust mentioned in one of the other reviews is just fine mineral deposits from the tap water. If filtered water is used, there should be no white dust at all, so it's not humidifier fault. The CPSC link the reviewer gave is irrelevant to this particular problem, as it warns about dirty humidifiers. This particular one has a weekly cleaning routine. Generally, if you stick to the instructions (i.e., empty and air-dry it after each use, clean every week, replace filters on time), this machine should serve you for a long time!

Nice design, works well November 9, 2008 Reviewer:  K. Elizabeth "K. Elizabeth" (NY)  See all my reviews >

This will be my second winter with this humidifier. On the plus side: it's the quietest humidifier I've ever owned, making it great for my bedroom; the tower design has a small footprint, so I keep it right on my nightstand; and it works fine, dispensing its entire tank in about 24 hours. I refill once a day. On the con side: it's a little hard to refill, since when you lift it out of the wet base it drips a little, and the hole is small but the tower big, so I can't refill it in the sink but have to use the bathtub tap, awkwardly.

I notice that other reviewers have complained about white dust, or about mold. The dust is mineral deposits; the mold is, well, mold. Both are problems with EVERY single humidifier, so they shouldn't count against this one in particular. You can manage them by using soft, filtered, or distilled water, and by cleaning the unit regularly with a dilute solution of bleach and water, or white vinegar and water. Yes, it's a chore, but all appliances need routine maintenance to function at their best.

Good Value, never saw any white dust. April 3, 2007 Reviewer:  Michael A. Ielpi "TheCommish76" Real Name (Lyndhurst, NJ USA)  See all my reviews >

Extremely quiet, has a nice look to it. I have never experienced any white dust reisdue from this machine. I use distilled water, and the white filter that came with the unit. It is not as powerful as some other humidifiers, but if you run it for a while, it will clear most of the dryness out of a room.

awkward February 5, 2007 Reviewer:  Jennah (Mechanicsville, MD)  See all my reviews >

I picked this humidifier over others because of its sleek design, because it said it was quiet, and because ultrasonic meant so filters to get moldy and pay to replace.

It works fine and gets the job done. Lasts for a long night on the highest setting, and for a few nights on the lowest. If given the cnage again, though, I wouldn't buy this one. Here's why:

1. I wish it didn't have the light. It's brighter than I'd prefer, as we use ours in the bedroom.

2. Awkward to refill. You really need to fill it up in the kitchen sink. Won't fit under a bathroom faucet. Inconveneient for us, since that's a long trip from the bedroom. Also, it says to carry it 'upside down' after refilling to avoid drips from the spring drip release, but the top of mine has many leaks, so it drips all the way back to the bedroom until I get back attached the bottom part.

3. Cleaning is a pain. Directions say to clean it once a week by letting bleach sit in it for 20 mins with water. It took me a few weeks to do this since, hey, who wants to do that every week. When I did do it, there was obvious hard water buildup (we do have hard water, as evidenced by the 'white residue' we get on the dresser beside the humidifier) that was difficult to get rid of. Yes, I should have cleaned it more, but as you can't really take the thing apart, it's pretty hard to clean. Also, water sits in the bottom resevoir, so you have to unplug the whole thing and take it into the bathroom to clean it out. the bottom gets even more buildup because water sits in it.

So all in all, it looks pretty and works OK, but I think next I might actually try one of those animal ones that seem to get pretty good reviews.

Great purchase January 7, 2008 Reviewer:  Hope this is helpful (NJ)  See all my reviews >

This humidifier is wonderful! I purchased one before this but was not able to sleep because of the loud volume. This one is so quiet that I can actually sleep with it on and I am quite sensitive to noise. You could actually see the mist right away after you turn it on and feel the moisture in the air. It is very easy to set up and has a blue night light. The only disadvantage, if any, is the light can not be turned off and does light up the room with a blue aura but I would definately recommend this!

Highly Recommended December 8, 2008 Reviewer:  A Grandmother (Suffolk County, NY)  See all my reviews >

I have been using this product for two years with no problems whatsoever. Operates quietly, increases the moisture in the room effectively, fills easily from kitchen sink all with a minimum of upkeep. Just follow the instructions in the manual for a healthy and non-drying winter!

Still working well after several years December 6, 2009 Reviewer:  Melissa (Atlanta, GA)  See all my reviews >

My husband and I have used this humidifier every winter for probably around 5 years. We have had no leaks, even when carried up side down after filling. As others have said it does have to be cleaned, but it's not difficult to keep clean if you take the time to do it now and then. We've been lucky that we don't have hard water, so we haven't had the white dust residue that others have mentioned. The worst place of build up for me is in the base, so I just dump the water that sits in it often. We have never had any leaks. It is acward to fill since it won't fit under a bathroom sink faucet, so I fill it in the bath tub or the kitchen sink. It is nice that it doesn't have a filter to mess with, but does have a thing to help with the hard water that can be replaced. Since we don't have hard water I have never changed it and it has not caused a problem. I also don't notice the light in our bedroom, it doesn't seem any brighter than a night light.

Leaks More Than Scooter Libby & Dick Cheney Combined February 21, 2009 Reviewer:  Eric (Brooklyn, NY, USA)  See all my reviews >

This humidifier leaks terribly unless the tank is perfectly aligned on the base. Unfortunately, when the tank is aligned so that the humidifier won't leak, it often doesn't produce any humidity: you have to adjust the tank and the filter and the plug just so if you expect to get any humidity out of it, and that is often impossible to do. The result is an unreliable and leaky mess. When it does work, t's actually quite quiet, and uses little energy, so if it worked consistently and didn't leak it would be a decent product. (The blue light doesn't bother me, but I don't have it in the bedroom.) It may be stylish and quiet, but that doesn't make up for the leaks and erratic output. Avoid it.

It leaks: BUT FIXABLE!!!! November 13, 2009 Reviewer:  Angelica "Angelica" (USA, Northeast)  See all my reviews >

Hi,

This humidifier leaks. It is the second one I have got. All credit to KAZ in that they even exchanged it *after* the warranty had expired. Each of time the unit lasts for about one winter season then starts to leak.

The leak is between the upper and lower body at the join. This is a wear area and where the unit fails first. After a number of refills the joint has worn and the leaks start to appear. This is a shame because the rest of the units works just fine.

The fix I used and so far has worked well is Vaseline (petroluem jelly). Smear a bit on the inside of the upper and outside of the lower connect seal. This is just enough to join the gap. Hey presto no leak.

A better solution I have yet to try is to paint around the lower seal. Why? The paint I think will close the tolerance again between the upper and lower seal. Hence no leak, and you do not have to keep smearing that Vaseline. Note cosmetically this is fine because the paint will be on the inside when the unit is in use. I think I will try this next.....
